James Cockerham - Everybody Ought To Praise His Name
A lot of requests for this one after closing Dekmantel Selectors with it. It was recorded live at the Shaw Temple A.M.E. Zion Church in Georgia and on some of the other tracks you can hear the congregation participating and applauding at the end of takes. A friend noted I was playing a lot of Gospel and asked if’d grown up religious but the reality is I’m increasingly drawn to the act of surrender in music. Dj’ing used to be more of a selfless endeavour rooted in sharing but since the proliferation of the individual hearing people play and sing in service of something greater than anything on this mortal coil has become deeply compelling.
